The Statewide Waste and Environmental Education Foundation (SWEEP Foundation) and the Pan African Waste Organisation (PAWO) is collaborating with stakeholders to co-create a conference with a mission to bring people together to share knowledge, inspire action, and drive progress towards a more sustainable and circular future for Africa.

The gathering, a stakeholders engagement for sustainability and circularity in Africa is themed MAKUTANO and will host 3rd and 4th December 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Makutano is a Swahili word that roughly translates to “meeting” or “forum” where people come together to discuss important issues, share ideas, and make decisions.

MAKUTANO 2024 has the following theme;

“Uniting Voices, Driving Change: Towards a Sustainable and Circular Africa”

Objective: To bring together stakeholders to share knowledge, inspire action, and drive progress towards a more sustainable future for Africa.

Location: To be announced

Date: December 2024 (exact dates to be announced)

Target Audience: Stakeholders in waste management, sustainability, and circularity in Africa, including governments, businesses, NGOs, and individuals.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders
  • Identification of innovative solutions and best practices in waste management and sustainability
  • Development of strategies and policies to support a circular economy in Africa
  • Enhanced awareness and engagement among Africans on sustainability and environmental issues
