LAGOS WASTE FORUM 5.0 ACCELERATING SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT IN AFRICA’S MEGACITY.
Lagos Waste Forum 5.0 Set to Host November 2024.
Amb. Obuesi Phillips, President of the Lagos Waste Forum, is pleased to announce the commencement of activities leading up to the 5th edition of the Lagos Waste Forum, scheduled to take place in November 2024.
The Lagos Waste Forum, a high-level citizens’ forum on waste reduction and management, has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable waste management practices in Lagos State. The forum has consistently brought together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as waste management experts, to discuss innovative solutions and strategies for a circular economy.
The 5th edition of the Lagos Waste Forum promises to be an exciting event, with a focus on leveraging the economic value chain of plastic waste to drive sustainable development. The forum will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge waste management technologies and solutions.
Amb. Obuesi Phillips expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Environment, Lagos State, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), The Coca-Cola Company, and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for their traditional support and partnership. “We appreciate the continued support and collaboration of our partners, which has been instrumental in the success of the Lagos Waste Forum. We look forward to another fruitful edition.”
The Lagos Waste Forum is organized by the Statewide Waste and Environmental Education (SWEEP) Foundation, in partnership with the aforementioned organizations.

As the Lagos Waste Forum prepares for its upcoming event, one must question whether the current strategies in waste management truly address the root causes of waste production. Are we merely applying temporary fixes to a much larger systemic issue, or can we genuinely reshape our consumption patterns and societal values to foster a sustainable future?”,
“refusal
As the Lagos Waste Forum prepares for its upcoming event, should we challenge the status quo by considering extreme measures such as banning single-use plastics altogether? What innovative strategies can we implement to not only reduce waste but also transform the mindset of citizens and businesses towards a zero-waste culture?”,

Is it time for Lagos to adopt radical waste management strategies, like incentivizing waste segregation through cryptocurrency rewards? As the city prepares for the Lagos Waste Forum 5.0, could innovative financial models transform public participation in waste reduction efforts and make recycling more appealing to residents?”,
